motherhood...

About time I came by to say hello…

Not much going on lately, just waiting for the dates on what is now a definite 2 operations that my husband will soon have to face…

This weekend we decided to visit his brother as they recently had a baby. This meant I was submitted to ~ 10 hours driving. I hate driving – full stop.

Only good thing was that we drove past Stonehenge & it’s always nice to wave hello @ those ancient rocks. Mr. Hubby took a pix from the car, just to add to the collection… maybe I’ll post it later.

I have proved to myself that I am a potential bad mother… Not only Square Pants, the fish, died this weekend, but I fell off the sofa with a 8 week old baby in my arms… How did this happen??? No, I wasn’t drunk… I was just behaving as I always do, getting into trouble as usual!!! The good news is that baby didn’t even wake up & I don’t have any bruises. Lucky, her father is a doctor but when I confessed my sin he only laughed at it, which was reassuring!

Off swimming soon, so I better hurry & do some work.

Campari Soda or Pina Colada?

Haven't had much going on lately, which is rather unusual. Spent last weekend reading about fishes. Went for dinner with some colleagues from a previous job.

I’m reading a book on a dog murder case, but I can’t remember the book’s name or the author right now… I know I read a few of his books before.

No holiday plans & not planning on going to Nothing Hill. No, it’s not married life. No, my life is not miserable, it’s just taken an unusual turn!

I hear gelatin is good for our health & considering my husband’s broken bones situation (one of the reasons I haven’t been up to much) I have decided to try some recipes. I did some Campari gelatin, which was good, & then I did one with orange juice, coconut water & passion fruit… honestly it was close to divine! Next one will be slightly different… a mixture of coconut water & passion fruit again but this time with pineapple juice & Malibu. If I can’t go to the tropics at least I can bring it’s flavors home!

Red Velvet Sword Tail

Today I went to the aquarium shop with some work colleagues & we bought 3 new little Red Velvet Sword Tail back to the office we decided to create a new fish blog, instead of opting for the regular log of info so you can check out how our new babies are doing. The blog is still being created so it’s a little plain to start, but hopefully it’ll become more interesting then this one, especially as my colleagues at work are also invited to write!

Click here if you want to check it out.

I'll post a pix I took at the Parrot Peak in Brazil...

Mrs Piggy

Had a great weekend, went to a friend house warming party, met my husband’s cousin’s new born baby & went shopping.

Remember I mentioned I had lost 1.3kg last week… well guess what??? This week I put on 1kg. Still better off than 2 weeks ago, but what a pain it is to maintain the shape! I read somewhere that there’s a French saying that “woman should always leave the table wanting more”; yes right?!

I am not Mrs Right, but I don’t tend to do things wrong & get others into trouble, I take responsibility for my own actions & I hate when people do something wrong & ends up affecting me. Pedestrians love to cross the street when the lights are red for them. OK, so do I!!! & I do it ALL the time, BUT… I don’t endanger the lives of fellow bikers… Please, continue doing things wrong but don’t kill cyclists!

I just got back from swimming followed by some shopping so I better hurry & do some work.

The fish tank is looking cool & ready to receive new inhabitants. We’ll go shopping on Thursday, hopefully. I printed out a pix I took scuba diving in the Bahamas & I am using it as a wall paper to cover the back of the tank but this is not a final decision yet.

Laws of Physics... or Murphy's laws?

I studied some physics. Not as much as I would have liked, & I have problems talking about the laws, especially in English, it can become confusing, but I’ll try!

I remember studying the apple & the train law. I remember visualising it, I analysed it so profoundly that I came up with the theory that I can run faster then a train. Simply, if I am inside of a train & I walk towards the front wagon, & you are outside the train & you see me walking you’ll see that I am walking faster then the train can travel!

But the other law I want to talk about (if there is one???) I can’t actually remember the theory, but in practice its used all the time among sailors as well as cyclists. It refers to travel. To help a boat travel on a straight line, the sailor will focus on something on the horizon but truth is that the boat would never arrive at this “aim”, particularly if this aim is another boat that happens to be travelling at a speed.

I cycle, and cyclists don’t like to full stop, what we often do, is come to a near stop whilst waiting for our right of way. Sometimes though, we’re waiting for a pedestrian to cross the road, so instinctively we aim the bike at them, knowing that the only way we’d hit the target would be if they stopped. Guess what happens??? MURPHY's Law- Yep, the pedestrian will stop. WHY??? Can’t teachers explain this @ physics classes? I’m sure if they’d explain it that way less kids would die on the roads and besides more kids would pass their exams.

On the bike subject, the council refuses to place road signalization in a place almost opposite the Lyceum Theatre, where the Lion King is on, simply because of conservation rules. As much as I care for arts & preservation I cannot see the point of preserving a bit of uninteresting pavement & SERIOUSLY risking the lives of cyclists & pedestrians. I simply cannot be held responsible if a pedestrian run into me while I am cycling there. So far I managed to escape unhurt, but it happens all the time. Not only that - MURPHY's law - people love to stop in the middle of the cycling lane to appreciate the area & look up putting their lives, their KIDs lives & mine on danger. They need to be told that this is a cycling lane.

Not much happening this week. Went to the gym, for a pub dinner, watched “lost” & did some more uninteresting stuff… Might have a busy weekend, will see!

FERRAGOSTO

Not really inspired to talk… but so that the memory stays alive I can tell you that I got the fish tank up & running… without fishes! Yep, according to 22nd century technology, apparently the water needs to run for a couple of weeks so that it gets rid of impurities & grows happy bacteria for the fishes.

Only been going to the gym for a week & already lost 1.30kg, wicked!

Last week we went to the Cinema, maybe for the 1st time this year, certainly the 1st time since my eye op. Saw “The wedding crashers”. Cool fun comedy but I still can’t believe we managed not to go to the cinema for so long…

If you are in London you might agree that it feels as you are in one of  long lost ghost cities… Honestly… August in Europe is like a Med Fever… All people think about is to go on sun… Mediterranean Beach holiday! It’s 5 days to the famous Italian Ferragosto… & I’m listening to Italian radio online… they’re broadcasting from the beach & I’m here sitting in my office & the closest I can get to holiday atmosphere is by going to Aqua gym… not the same, lets face it! That reminds me, I have a class starting soon @ the GYM… I better hurry if I want to drop another kilo!

Baci & Buon FERRAGOSTO!

Med week

I managed to go to 2 out of 4 parties this weekend.

Saturday morning I went to a fish pet shop as I have decided I am setting up an aquarium. Learned a lot & should be buying the stuff next weekend & then leave it for 2 weeks so the water gets treated & ready to receive the new little fishes. I’m so exited about that!!!

After the pet shop I cycled to the food market… gosh that was soo good… not just healthy… it was nostalgic too… we always go to the Borough Market, but cycling buying fresh veggies & putting it in the bike basket & cycling home was so cool… so Mediterranean… Keep dreaming!!!

Speaking med… got home & cooked a rather nice linguini with scallops & nice med salad for lunch… it was only not perfect because we didn’t eat ‘al fresco’ but one day we’ll get there!

Been to the gym a lot this week! Work is getting better now that I have lots of new people started. Took today – Thursday – off as I wont be able to go on holidays at all in August as both my bosses are away & I’ll have to hold on!

I bought a 2nd hand fish tank which I’ll collect this weekend & also I was given 1 small one by a colleague at work. I’m so keen on starting those aquariums, I almost feel stupid for not having thought of that earlier, but I guess everything has the right timing!

I don’t think I have anything planned for this weekend other then collecting & setting up the fish tank but we’ll also look at some bathroom stores as we seem to be ready to re-decorate it, hooray!

This week I saw a biker with some sort of mobile-bell & I loved the idea… As you might know I cycle all over London & one of the major hazard is actually pedestrians as they don’t hear the cyclists & jump on the street right in front of us. I’ve been run over by 2 pedestrians before & plus there are all other screaming & shouting & swerving to avoid collisions all the time. So, I guess a mobile-bell is on my wish list now! PS: I’m not a cow!

I’d like to thank all for visiting me & also for leaving messages… not that many of you do it yet & all the times but at least it’s nice to see the counter going up!
