tanti auguri per noi

Hello all,

Had a crazy busy week & no much time to post (great excuse, hey!!!) been to the gym and cycled in the rain (I’m getting good at this!!!).

Friday I went for diner with my husband and a couple of friends. Had a nice churrasco steak (serious, the word churrasco was in the menu, so that’s why  I chose it). I have to say, it was more like a really good steak “na chapa” then a “churrasco”, but it was really good & I’d recommend! Though… it was south of the river & we know many people simply will not cross the river… little do they enjoy!!!

Saturday I was presented with a really nice bouquet of flowers in preparation for our Sunday anniversary. I love my husband!!! I’ve photographed it so I might post a pix during the week. Then we went to the rugby match. Though GB Lost to NZ & I was upset I had a great time. I managed to understand the game, suffer like I always suffered for my fluminense football team, I shouted it was great, I loved it!

Sunday – today – is our 1st wedding anniversary and we went for lunch at the Locanda Locatelli, which happens to be the best Italian and the best restaurant award winner for 2005. As lovers of good food, Kevin & I had to go & check it out… it was… worth the awards! I had to starve for a week in order to enjoy an antipasti of escalops (hubby had the same), for pasta I had gnocchi di tartufi neri while Kevin has something like Ox tortelonni. And for main he had veal with polenta e fungi porcini while I had monkfish… hummm… nice Sicilian (house) wine, and biscotti di amaretto (like those we have in Sicilia). I’m lucky I have a husband who knows where to take me for lunch!!! We had a great time & a great 1st anniversary. Hopefully there are many other happy ones to come!

To finish this post I thought I'd post a pix from last year. Enjoy!

Hey guys!

Remember I mentioned I went playing squash last week???

Well, days before I think I kind of pulled a muscle in my leg at the gym. Squash made it worse, or perhaps it actually made me realise what had happened. But then I got better and then I went swimming & I managed to pull the muscle again when getting off the pool. How great!

This is all to be able to tell you that I took the bus today. I was unable to cycle. It doesn’t hurt that much, but the weather is cold & I feel my leg can do with the resting.

Waiting for the bus I have noticed a really well dressed lady, one of those we all envy. This was until I saw it… she had a tag!!! Don’t know about you, right, but something that really winds me up is to see tags on people’s shoes. So errr…

Had a nice weekend. Friday I went for drinks at (my now becoming regular) gay bar in Soho. Saturday went for more drinks (this time I drank only one cause I was driving) with friends in Kings Road. Cooked feijoada (Brazilian national dish, like a bean stew) for a friend I visited on Sunday. She just had a baby, so I thought she could do with it. That reminds me, I still haven’t eaten mine!

Grandma is moving to her new house this week, that makes me sooo happy that I could fly to the house warming they’re having. Instead I am sending her a box full of English goods (tea, mars bars, digestive biscuits & a cake). And also I bought some flowers on line, which will be delivered this Friday.

I’m finishing this with a pix of mine taken at home with that football shirt I mentioned a couple of posts back.

Cool, that’s it from me.

Baci,

Ann

public transport? no thanks!

Though my bike is my main transport, sometimes I do take the public transport. Yesterday I took the bus home. As it’s starting to get cold, in a packed bus, I could smell that stuffy air which is rather unpleasant & reminds me of how nice it is to be able to cycle.

This morning I had a meeting at 10 AM. I left home just before 9 and thought I’d take the tube just to be on the safest side. This journey should take me 20 minutes, but getting to the station I learned that the Northern line is not working and I had to walk back towards the bus station and wait for an empty bus. Lucky it wasn’t raining hard but I got to work at 10:15.

Tonight I’m on my own and in charge of the remote control. Thought I’d watch one of those programmes which psychologist analyse badly behaved children. I was shocked to learn that a kid had started smoking at the age of 4. Can one imagine that? Times like that make me realise how lucky I am.

London

I love this city and what it has to offer. I am lucky to work so central and to be near remarcable places.

Took those pix last week, after work, when Onno & I went for a walk towards Waterloo Bridge, passing by British Museum.

sweet dreams

Do dreams have meanings? Are dreams an extension of the day? Last night I had a dream the refectory manager left and I decided to apply for the job…

Ok, I like culinary and I do not like that manager but what a dream!!!

Plaid squash for the first time ever today, with 2 blokes from work. I was crap but we had fun (at least I think they did enjoy killing me!!!)

I’ve been watching LOST and though I find it’s boring me I can’t wait to see the next episode to see if it’ll be more interesting. It reminds me of Blairwitch project, great publicity but watch it and you spend the whole film waiting for something to happen...

Had a hair colour & blow-dried straight this weekend. I’m looking more like a decent human being for a change!

I was wearing my Brazilian football team t-shirt & went to bed with it last night. Kevin goes “ I think you’re the only woman I know who wears a football shirt to bed”. Is this true?

another reason to have a bike

Assuming I’d have to go & pick up the car this morning (see last post) I retired to the sofa accompanied by my husband and a glass of rose. We had just started watching a film when the phone rings, it’s the police letting us know where our car is & telling me that the garage is 24 hours & I should go there now. Off we went to Camberwell after dark.

Annoyed with the situation and the £200 that’s gone to waste we got the car & drove back, choosing to take a right turn by the Oval, where apparently you’re not supposed to.

So, like an alert driver I am, always checking the mirrors, I find there’s a police car behind so I calmly say…

- Kevin, there’s a police car behind.

- Ok, don’t worry, just move back to the road and drive forward.

Like a good wife, I did as I was told, except I noticed that the police car started following – oops!

Kevin suggested I should do a U turn at the Oval, however I was not so keen on the idea. I wanted to go around Vauxhall. While trying to get the courage to do the U turn I see the blue lights so I had to stop.

Officer: Good Evening, madam, I’d like you to switch off the engine and step out of the car.

I switch off the lights.

Out of the car, Kevin is also out so the officer is trying to explain that he should be inside the car but he wants to listen to the conversation so this causes a little stress. Kevin goes back inside, however, not satisfied because he can’t listen, he pops out again to be told if he doesn’t cooperate they’ll be forced to take him to the station. Problem sorted (I moved closer to the car) the officer asks something like…

Officer: Why where you about to turn right and then you went straight on?

ME: well, I wasn’t sure whether it was allowed.

Officer: No it isn’t. But living so close to here, how come you didn’t know?

ME: well, I don’t really drive, my husband has just had an operation, that’s why I’m driving. And I’m a cyclist, and cycling is different.

Officer: Well, not really. Do you have a full licence?

Me: yes

The conversation was deviated to where I was allowed to drive that car in the UK.

The officer radioed the station & found nothing illegal to press charges.

What a day!!!

out & about

I was drunk after drinking ½ glass of G&T Fridays 10 days ago. Whether it was single or triple shot I don’t know, all I can tell is that I was so affected by it that my dear friend Onno suggested he took my bike & I got the bus. To his surprise I said yes. This was just b4 Mr Tin’s op, so I said he could have it until I got back as I wouldn’t need it.

He kept it for 10 days & I got it back today after a threat he’d keep it. Can’t tell you guys how much I missed it!!! (the bike, not my friend)

After a week off work – though working from home & hospital – I was approaching home on my bike when I say out loud “f**k!” near some pedestrians. They must have thought I was crazy. Though that’s a fact, I just remembered that our car was parked on a non parking spot and I forgot to move it. Tomorrow I’ll have to go & get it from the garage… worse then having to tell my boss I have to leave straight after the meeting I have tomorrow morning is to spend over £200 to sort this stupid mistake out. Advice… Never park on non-permitted areas!!! Or a better one… Don’t buy a car, buy a bike!

Ciao!
